I did not want to work with Jason. In fact, I didn’t feel that I had the mental strength to work with one more trainer, physician, acupuncturist, physical therapist or holistic counselor. After back surgery to remove a spinal tumor, I was told at age 26 that I would need to live with the knee pain that never subsided. Over the next couple years I had become someone that my family and friends no longer recognized. I was worn down into a depression from daily pain, frustration over doctors giving in to prescription recommendations instead of offering creative alternatives and missing out on year after year of my 20’s. I didn’t have the resilience to work with another professional who didn’t want to truly invest in my struggle. Thanks to Jason, I never had to again.
Hearing the successes of his other clients first hand, I was already aware that he was a sought after authority on physiology and fitness. It wasn’t until I worked with him personally that I realized his compassionate insightfulness, focused dedication and fun demeanor were equally commanding attributes of his. He taught me to focus on where my body was in that moment, as angry and embarrassed as I was over its performance and perceived failures.
Working with his customized exercises to re-educate my knees and back on how to move correctly again was something that took not only his unique expertise, but also his supportive spirit. Today I’m back to my old self, and I actually went snowboarding this year! I’m almost entirely pain free- so much so that I can’t even blame my knees for all the face-planting I did on the slopes. I still use Jason’s exercises to improve my strength on my own, and it’s solely because of him that I get to go to the gym every week to continue to take care of my active and happy self.
